A boxing program at a Murray Bridge community gym is helping young people improve their physical and mental health.
The program at the Lower Murray Nungas Club gym has been run by Blue Light SA – usually better known for their discos – since 2022.
Each week, participants learn basic boxing techniques with gloves, pads and bags; complete timed fitness exercises; and hear from guest speakers on topics ranging from discipline to mental health and other youth activities available locally.
Participants are picked up from school, given a snack on the way, and dropped off afterwards.
Fifteen young people have completed the eight-week program since August, while another 13 have attended at least a session or two.
One reportedly lost 50 kilograms.
The boxing fitness program will run again in terms two and four of this year.
