A Murray Bridge man has been arrested for arson after a house on Myall Avenue was gutted by fire on Friday night.

Firefighters were called to the house around 8.15pm after nearby residents called 000.

When they arrived, they found flames and smoke coming from the back of the house.

They were initially told someone might have been inside, and used breathing apparatus to go in and check.

Thankfully they found that no-one was home.

It took 10 minutes for the firefighters from two Metropolitan Fire Service and two Country Fire Service trucks, plus an MFS command vehicle, to bring the fire under control.

They were able to put it out within another five minutes, but not before it caused about $250,000 worth of damage.

Police spoke with a 29-year-old local man at the scene.

They wound up arresting him and charging him with arson.

He was denied bail ahead of a hearing at Murray Bridge Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
