Oval lease will be ‘huge’ step towards Tailem Bend sporting hub

A puzzle piece is about to fall into place for the group which hopes to build a combined sporting hub at Tailem Bend.
The Tailem Bend and District Combined Sporting and Recreation Hub is looking to take over the lease of the town’s oval, Jaensch Park.
The lease was previously held by the football club.
Hub spokesman Duane Edwards said it would be a “huge” step for the group, whose members include the football, netball and cricket clubs, plus dozens of other organisations.
Most importantly, it would enable the hub to apply for the millions of dollars in grant funding it will need to build new indoor and outdoor sporting facilities around the oval.
He hoped to provide the community with an update on those plans later this month.
Members of the public have until this Friday morning to comment on the Coorong council’s plan to grant the group a 21-year lease, with a right to renew for another 21 years.
The leased area would include the oval, netball courts and surrounds, plus an area of open land directly to the north, along Granites Road.
