Our PACC is your kind of people

A new disability support provider is coming to Murray Bridge. Here’s what they're all about.

“Kindness is the golden key that unlocks the hearts of others.”

So reads a sign in the office of Sal Khan, CEO of disability support providers Our PACC.

When you speak to Sal, you understand that kindness is a principle that he and his staff believe in and practise.

When Sal started Our PACC in 2022, he became aware of the problems with some NDIS providers – basically, a lack of kindness.

“We were doing our market research,” he says, “and we saw that the people who have disabilities are not actually treated with dignity and respect.

“They have the right to enjoy their life and have improved mobility.”

The PACC in Our PACC refers to “para ability community care”.

The term “para ability” is about building upon people’s different abilities.

“We say this is our PACC,” Sal says.

“All the stakeholders are included in this.”

The support Our PACC provides includes:

  • accommodation
  • community participation
  • transport and access support
  • on-site physio and occupational therapists
  • in-home support

Indeed, Our PACC is helping to address the housing crisis through various options for people with disability.

The main accommodation is the Our PACC Supported Residential Facility on Reservoir Road at Modbury.

The former aged care facility has been transformed into a vibrant, invigorating environment, with features such as as garden for clients to work on, a pool table and a colourful music performance area.

Our PACC also offers accommodation options in Murray Bridge, Port Augusta, Port Pirie and Mount Barker, and plans to grow in the Murray Bridge region as client needs dictate.

But ultimately, what’s more important than bricks and mortar are the feelings of security and joy that that are generated from caring – and kind – staff.

One such staff member is Christina, the day options coordinator at Our PACC since May 2024.

Christina establishes special bonds with her clients, as demonstrated through her support of a young lady named Olivia.

Olivia, who lives with cerebral palsy and intellectual disability, started to receive Our PACC services as a teenager.

She came to Our PACC in Modbury a couple of days a week.

Among other things, Our PACC helped with Olivia’s speech and worked with OTs to make Olivia more independent.

“Olivia is totally enjoyable,” Christina says, “loves socialising around the place and loved the activities.”

When Olivia moved out of her family home into an Our PACC home and entered the workforce, she spent less time at Our PACC.

Christina, who enjoyed teaching Olivia about cooking and encouraging her to try different types of food, felt proud but also a bit sad that her friend was moving on.

But clients’ independence and happiness is the end game.

“I discussed with her mum and dad the NDIS goals for Olivia, plus her personal goals,” Christina says.

“She’s 21 now.

“Even though she left, the family sent me an invite to her her 21st birthday party, and I went.”

Christina and Olivia remain in touch.

It’s these personal connections between staff and clients that distinguish Our PACC.

As Our PACC continues to expand its services in Murray Bridge and other regions, Sal has a message for potential clients.

“If people are tired of trying different providers, they should contact us, and we should definitely have a personalised consultation with them,” he says.

“We are not just here for the money.

“We are here to actually create value in the market, and we are operating differently.”
