Old Murray Bridge to close on four dates this July as work continues
Murray Bridge’s main street bridge will be shut next Tuesday and Wednesday, and on two more dates this July.
Murray Bridge’s old road bridge will temporarily close on four dates this month as work continues on its refurbishment.
Weather permitting, the bridge will be shut between 9am and 4.30pm on:
- Tuesday, July 12
- Wednesday, July 13
- Thursday, July 21
- Friday, July 22
More short-term bridge closures are expected in August.
On closure days, the Swanport Bridge – on the South Eastern Freeway – will be the only way to get between Murray Bridge’s east and west sides.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport urged locals to plan ahead for school pick-ups and other journeys, and to keep supporting businesses on and around Bridge Street.
The state government is spending $36 million fixing up the bridge, which became the first to cross the River Murray when it was opened in 1879.
The refurbishment is due to be finished in late 2023.
