To celebrate the International Day of People with Disability awards on December 1, the Murray Bridge council wants the community to nominate outstanding individuals with disability and inclusive organisations and programs.

The council is inviting nominations in two separate categories: individual achievement and disability-inclusive business, program or organisation.

The individual achievement award recognises individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary resilience, determination and advocacy.

The business, program or organisation award is for an organisation or program that has shown ongoing commitment to inclusivity and accessibility.

Mayor Wayne Thorley encouraged the community to get their nominations in.

“We invite all individuals with or without disabilities, disability service providers and all schools to participate,” he said.

“Our collective aim is to foster a positive image of people with disabilities within an inclusive community.”

Apart from the awards, the free and inclusive event, sponsored by Genuine Support Services, will feature a petting zoo, face painting, modified sports and activities, prizes and a free barbecue lunch.
