New state MP Jason Virgo visits Tailem Bend

Jason Virgo, the newly elected state Member for MacKillop, has begun settling into his role by travelling throughout the electorate to meet with local communities and hear first-hand about the issues that matter most to regional South Australians.
One recent visit brought him to Old Tailem Town and the Tailem Bend Community Centre, where he met with CEO Tammy Shepherd and discussed local priorities, community services and future opportunities for the district.
Mr Virgo represents one of South Australia’s largest electorates, stretching across the South East, Coorong, lower Murraylands and lower Mallee.
Before entering parliament, he built a career in the security industry, working in a range of regional settings including timber mills, gas plants, meat processing facilities and correctional services.
He has also spoken of his experience working at the detention centre on Christmas Island, which helped shape his views on public policy and government.
Raised in the South East, Mr Virgo said his upbringing had instilled the values of hard work, resilience and service.
His family worked across industries including fishing, forestry, agriculture and aged care, giving him a strong connection to regional life.
Mr Virgo was elected to represent MacKillop in March after standing as a candidate for Pauline Hanson’s One Nation.
Since taking office, he said, he had been committed to representing all residents of the electorate while advocating for improved infrastructure, essential services and support for regional industries.
His visit to Tailem Bend formed part of an ongoing tour of communities across MacKillop as he continues meeting local residents and organisations.
