New Murray Bridge councillors hit the ground running

Murray Bridge’s councillors have chosen a new Deputy Mayor at their first meeting since the recent election.
Two councillors put their hands up to stand in for Mayor Wayne Thorley from time to time: Airlie Keen and Andrew Baltensperger.
After two tied council votes, the winner’s name had to be picked in a random draw.
Cr Baltensperger ultimately took the honour, and will receive a higher allowance as a result.
Monday night’s meeting was mostly procedural, with councillors taking their oaths of office and nominating for various committees.
New Cr Tom Haig will serve on the council assessment panel, which makes decisions about property developments.
Lisa Courtney, the other new councillor, will sit on the community advisory committee, which awards community grants, among other duties.
