The countdown is on to Monarto Safari Park’s grand reopening on March 25.

The park’s new, $16.8-million visitor centre is close to being complete, with a cafe, gift shop, playground and exhibition space all nearly finished.

Zoos SA members will get a sneak peek at the centre on March 23 and 24 before the public is allowed in on the Friday.

Visitors will need to use the park’s new main entrance, on Monarto Road, when they arrive.

The safari park will close for a week from next Friday, March 18 to allow the final preparations to be completed.

For Murray Bridge residents, the quickest way out to the safari park’s new entrance will be via Rocky Gully Road, which turns into Monarto Road. Image: Monarto Safari Park.

Two cheetah cubs born at Monarto

Meanwhile, the safari park has welcomed the birth of two cheetah cubs.

Nine-year-old Kesho gave birth to the pair on February 24.

Keeper Michelle Lloyd said the arrivals were a hopeful sign for the species, which is classified as vulnerable in the wild.

About 6000 individuals remain in eastern and southwestern Africa.

“Kesho has been doing an amazing job,” Ms Lloyd said.

“She is such a great mum.

“We have seen her licking and grooming the cubs and they have been feeding really well.”
