This story was contributed by Jill Sutton.
A defibrillator has been purchased and installed at Wellington East with help from local residents.
The community can find the life-saving device on the corner of George Mason and Rebecca Street.
Defibrillators are devices that apply an electric charge or current to the heart to restore a normal heartbeat.
The devices installment comes with assistance from the Masonic Quilting and Craft Group Tailem Bend, the Lions Club of Tailem Bend and the Rotary Club of Tailem Bend.
According to St John Ambulance, defibrillation within the first few minutes of having a sudden cardiac arrest increases the chance of survival to over 70 per cent.
The next project in the works is to arrange a familiarisation session with members of St John Ambulance for people interested in learning about the correct use of the appliance.
