New Australians welcomed to Murray Bridge
Another 24 new neighbours have taken their citizenship pledges on Australia Day 2023.
Twenty-four new Australians have taken their citizenship pledges in Murray Bridge on Australia Day this year.
From all the lands on Earth they’d come – or from France to southeast Asia and beyond, anyway.
State MP Adrian Pederick welcomed the newcomers to “the greatest nation on Earth” on behalf of his federal counterpart, Tony Pasin.
“To those who proudly join our Aussie family today … love your country, be proud of our flag, be proud of who we are and what we have achieved together,” he said.
“I encourage you to celebrate what it means to be Australian: to work hard, contribute to community, a sense of mateship and belonging and of prosperity.”
Former citizen of the year Cathy Smith read the poem I Choose Australia and Gabby King sang Advance Australia Fair before each new citizen was presented with a gift pack.
More than 19,000 people from 140 countries were due to be sworn in today at more than 420 ceremonies across the country.
