Mypolonga named Ag Town of the Year finalist for 2022
The small but mighty town has made the final five in the South Australian competition for the second year running.
Mypolonga has been named a finalist in South Australia’s agricultural town of the year competition for the second year running.
Primary Industries and Regional Development Minister Clare Scriven made the announcement on Monday morning.
The five towns which made the cut were chosen from among 54 nominees by a public vote.
Mypolonga Progress Association chair Steve Hein said he was excited that the town would get a chance to tell its story once again.
Members of the committee behind the award bid will meet later this week to figure out how they will entertain the judges when it comes to visit.
“We’re not getting ahead of ourselves,” he said.
“There was a lot of work done last year and we’re trying to build on that.”
The judges – Primary Producers SA’s Simon Maddocks, Woodside Cheese’s Kris Lloyd, the SA Produce Market’s Angelo Demasi and Naracoorte Mayor Erika Vickery – are expected to spend a day at Mypolonga in early September.
They will also visit the four other finalists: Crystal Brook, Kapunda, Orroroo and Waikerie.
A winning town will be announced at SA’s Regional Showcase event on November 4.
