Murraylands Multisports left reeling after break-in
A non-profit organisation which promotes sporting events and community causes has been targeted by thieves.
Murraylands Multisports has been left with a mess to clean up after thieves broke into their storage space over the weekend.
The non-profit organisation behind Murray Bridge's annual marathon and fun run has raised more than $50,000 for community causes over the past decade.
In return, its equipment had been rifled through, vandalised and destroyed, president Morgan Coull said.
He did not yet know what had been taken.
"I have poured my heart and soul into this organisation for the benefit of the community and given thousands of hours of my time to hopefully bring joy to those who take part in our events and to enjoy the wonderful community spirit, landscapes and river aspects our town affords," he said in a Facebook post.
"I invite those lost and misguided souls who came and did this to come and help me clean up this mess and volunteer their time at our events this year to see the work that goes into them.
"Maybe they will learn some life skills, gratitude and appreciation for all the people that come together to help make our region a better place."
Anyone interested in helping with the clean-up can head down to the former rowing club shed, on the river side of Murray Bridge Club, from 4.30pm on Monday.
Mr Coull is also on the lookout for a new storage space of about 25 square metres, ideally with an adjacent room where gear could be organised prior to events.
Murray Bridge Rowing Club’s old premises had been otherwise empty since the new rowing centre next door opened last summer.
The Murray Bridge and District Community Club upstairs has plans to turn the space into a riverfront restaurant, pending council approval.
Mr Coull is a former Murray Bridge sports person of the year who competed on a gruelling reality TV show with British personality Bear Grylls in 2020.
