Murray Bridge Speedway’s 2021-22 season will kick off this weekend with the official season opener.
Venue administrator Darren Shaddock said the event would be the first of at least 22 for the season, with a few extra dates to be confirmed.
“We are really excited to present a full calendar of events this year after COVID-19 interrupted the earlier part of the 2020-21 season,” he said.
On the program for opening night are wingless sprints, street stocks, formula 500s and classic saloons.
Modified sedans will compete in round one of the Barossa Hose Doctor Modified Sedan Series, while a super sedans feature event will be dedicated to the late Graham Cowland, a well respected competitor in the sedan ranks.
Speedcars were also set to return but will be an unfortunate omission from the opening night lineup, with border restrictions limiting travel for interstate competitors.
Ending the evening’s program will be the crowd favourite demolition derby.
Attendees will need to buy their tickets online and either print them out or show the barcode on their smartphones.
“We made the permanent move to an online ticketing system last season and thank everyone who jumped onboard and has supported us in this transition period in the digital age,” Mr Shaddock said.
“We ask that all attendees please bring along their own masks to be worn in queuing areas – the gate, canteen and toilets – and in all indoor areas of the venue to assist meeting current COVID-19 requirements.
“We really can’t thank everyone enough for their support during these times.”
Gates will open at 4pm on Saturday ahead of the event kicking off at 5pm.
