Murray Bridge Show brings the community together
Members of the Murray Bridge Community Photography Club have been out and about at the 2026 show.
Saturday’s Murray Bridge Show has been another outstanding celebration of everything that makes a country show special.
Despite unpredictable weather, the crowds came out in force, with attendance again very similar to last year.
Cars filled the streets around the showgrounds; the crowds enjoyed their favourite show food, while free parking proved a popular bonus.
There was something for everyone: rides, showbags, food, entertainment, trade displays, livestock, pavilion competitions, motorcycles and the ever-popular Murray Bridge News Bunyip Trail, which once again had children and families travelling from stand to stand collecting their gifts and enjoying the day together.
The livestock sections showcased the region’s agricultural tradition, with Billabong Farms of Woods Point taking out the grand champion dairy cattle honour.
One of the show’s highlights was the annual photography competition, convened by Glenn Power and judged by Peter Blacket with assistance setting up from Julie Moulds and Chris Elliott – all members of the Murray Bridge Community Photography Club.
This year’s grand champion photography exhibit went to 15-year-old Lucia Gray from Ironbark in the Adelaide Hills.
Lucia’s monochrome photograph was exceptional.
It wasn’t simply a technically impressive image – it told a story.
Strong composition, atmosphere and mood drew the viewer into the photograph and left you wondering about the moment behind the image.
“The Murray Bridge Show is wonderful, my dad and I have had a great time,” she said.
“It’s a top day.
“We’ll be back again next year.”
Photography club members, including Bill Simounds and Mason Mirabito, also roamed the showgrounds, capturing the people, animals and action throughout the day.
As the Ken Wells Pavilion slowly emptied and exhibitors began packing away their displays, it was a strong reminder of just how much work goes on behind the scenes.
Volunteers, exhibitors, families and the show committee all played their part.
That is the magic of a country show: the whole community coming together and making something special happen.
