Occupational therapist Kaitlyn Enter wants people to talk more about fertility issues and miscarriages.

This weekend, she and her young daughter Audrey will do a half marathon around Murray Bridge to help make this happen.

Ms Enter’s other aim in doing the run is to raise funds – $2,110 – for the Pink Elephants Support Network, which provides resources, information and peer support for anyone impacted by early pregnancy loss.

Ms Enter had no interest in long-distance running before she met her husband in 2015.

“He was going to do the Melbourne Marathon, and I was like ‘Who are you?’,” she said.

“But half a year later I ran my first, in the Sunshine Coast half marathon in 2016, and the Melbourne half the same year.

“And I ran the Melbourne Marathon in 2019 to raise funds for an orphanage in Vanuatu in memory of my second cousin, the Melanie Jewson Foundation.”

Now, Ms Enter not only gets the appeal, she loves it.

“I love being outside – that’s my happy place – and I like moving; it feels good because your body gets into a rhythm,” she said.

She also likes a challenge.

That’s why she’ll be pushing a pram during Sunday’s half-marathon, part of the Murray Bridge Marathon Festival.

If she can raise money and awareness for a good cause, all the better.

“One in four pregnancies in Australia end in miscarriage, which is outrageously common,” she said.

“There’s a stigma about miscarriages, and people don’t talk about it, but my aim is to talk about it.

“I want it to be out there so that the people who need to talk about – the people who haven’t dealt with their grief – can reach out and talk about it.”

Ms Enter’s approach seems to be working, with friends approaching her to talk about these issues.

“They’ve all felt alone and that maybe they’ve done something wrong,” she said.

“I want people to be informed so they don’t blame themselves.”

Ms Enter said her almost-one-year-old daughter Audrey enjoyed runs with her mum in the pram, and that her happy place was also outside.

When asked for a statement, Audrey declined to comment, but she did smile warmly and offer a handful of dirt.

For people wanting to cheer on Kaitlyn and Audrey, the duo will be starting the run at Sturt Reserve at 7.45am this Sunday.
