Murray Bridge medical centre gets a new name

The Murray Bridge Day and Night Surgery will become Murray Bridge Medical Centre in 2025. Here's why – and when they'll be open over the Christmas/new year period.

The Murray Bridge Day and Night Surgery will soon have a brand new name displayed out the front of their clinic on Adelaide Road.

The new name, Murray Bridge Medical Centre, will be in action from January 2025.

It’s still the same colour, design, and logo but with the new “medical centre” branding underneath.

Practice manger Wendy Ziersch says the new name is more reflective of the business model the centre has now and shows a more sustainable approach.

“ Day and night indicates that we’re open all day, all night and that's unsustainable from what it was when we started,” she says.

“A lot more people are now focusing on their work-life balance, and that includes doctors.”

Doctors now look for more realistic work hours to have the chance to focus on their family and health and wellbeing.

“ We’re still the same people, we're still here for (the community),” Wendy says.

From an employer’s point of view, it puts the clinic on the front foot for recruitment because of the model hours, she says.

The change also indicates it’s a medical centre, not a surgery, which will hopefully attract more specialists for the community.

Christmas opening hours

Before Christmas comes, it’s a good idea to get any scripts renewed or health check-ups booked in, Ms Ziersch says.

“We can do phone appointments for script renewals and (locals) can come in and visit with their doctor,” she says.

Food safety and hygiene, over-indulging and road safety are all issues that need highlighting over the holiday season too, she says.

Be mindful about leaving food out, alcohol precautions or driving long distances; don’t become complacent.

“ Sometimes we just over-indulge a little bit too much … with alcohol and too much food ... and left-out food can cause those sorts of health issues to arise,” she says.

”We want everyone to be with their family and friends and celebrating,” she says.

Since everyone deserves at least a little break over the holiday season, the clinic will be applying the following opening hours:
