Murray Bridge man detained after hit-and-run

Police have detained a Murray Bridge man after an apparent hit-and-run on Saturday night.

Emergency services were called to Joy Crescent around 9.45pm on Saturday after the man allegedly hit a 26-year-old woman while driving his Nissan ute.

The local woman was treated at the Murray Bridge hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Police found the 32-year-old man, also a local, about 45 minutes later and detained him under the Mental Health Act.

They expected to report him for driving without due care.

Police planned to have forensic investigators look at the ute after it was towed to Murray Bridge Police Station.

Driver survives nasty prang on Maurice Road

A 37-year-old man is lucky to be alive after his Mitsubishi Magna was “completely destroyed” in a crash on Sunday morning.

Police found the car in the middle of Maurice Road, Murray Bridge at 2.45am, surrounded by debris.

They believed the driver had failed to negotiate a slight bend, hit the curb, then ran into a tree before spinning out.

Somehow, the local man received only minor injuries.

Police expected to charge him with driving offences.

No-one else was in the car at the time of the crash.

Thieves target copper cabling – again

Police are investigating the theft of 600 metres of heavy-duty copper cabling from a quarry at Brinkley two weeks ago.

The property on Pfeiffer Road was visited by thieves sometime between 4pm on June 18 and 6am on June 21.

Around the same time, two air conditioning units were stolen from a property next door.

The thief or thieves cut through fences and padlocks to get in.

It is not the first time this winter thieves have targeted copper cables.

SA Power Networks put out an offer of a $20,000 reward last month after some were stolen from several of its substations in the Murraylands.
