"The future is ours," proclaims the school's new motto, revealed as part of a rebranding ahead of year 7 students' arrival in 2022.

Murray Bridge High School reveals new logo, motto

Murray Bridge High School’s students will wear blue and white from 2022, and their uniforms will bear a new school logo and motto: “the future is ours”.

The school’s much-anticipated new logo is based on a stylised “MB”, with nods to the River Murray, a swan in flight and Ngarrindjeri culture.

The colour blue was chosen out of respect for the school's history in navy, red and gold; for the environment; and for the Ngarrindjeri people, whose flag is also blue.

Watch the video above for a fuller explanation.

The motto will be displayed in both English and Ngarrindjeri, in which it has been translated as “palai namawi” – an easy-to-pronounce phrase intended to make Aboriginal students proud while connecting non-Aboriginal students to the local culture.

New school uniforms are still being created, but will feature a wavy, cross-hatched line reminiscent of the River Murray and designed by Aboriginal staff, students and families.

The current uniforms will be slowly phased out as the current cohort of students graduates.

Principal Ruth Mussger said she had been overwhelmed by positive feedback throughout the process.

“What we heard was that the students wanted more ownership over the school’s visual identity, while the community wanted to see a more modern look and feel that represented the school’s recent innovations and growing value to the region,” she said.

“Positively, the vast majority of our school community also wanted to ensure the visual branding elements and language also represented the diverse cultures within our school community, while maintaining the same title and core colours.”

The colours, logo and motto were all selected based on feedback from more than 600 students, parents, staff and community members.

Ms Mussger hoped the rebrand would give the school a visual lift as it prepared for a huge 12 months, including the arrival of hundreds of year 7 students, the opening of new facilities and a broadening of study options.

The rebranding project was announced last August, and carried out in partnership with local marketing firm Commshake.

The school had even been open to changing its name as part of the process, but community members preferred to keep the status quo.

Murray Bridge High School was established in 1913, and had previously adopted new branding in 1934 and 2001.
