Nine months after a fire damaged Murray Bridge Day and Night Surgery, the building is healing.

Tradies have finally been able to rebuild and repaint the surgery during the past week, and begin to patch up its smoke-scarred reception area, following an arson attack last October.

Practice manager Wendy Ziersch took the opportunity to thank her patients for their patience and understanding.

“They’ve been very supportive during this difficult time, knowing the place is clean and tidy, but fire-damaged,” she said.

“They’ve been so supportive of our front counter staff … it has been really difficult for them.

“To see the works happening now is really exciting.”

With that job done, she urged locals to consider taking out an insurance policy of sorts.

With winter here, infectious diseases were affecting more and more locals – so now was a good time to consider getting a flu vaccine.

“August is known as a peak time for influenza and colds,” she said.

“There’s a lot of illnesses (going around).

“As children go back to school next week, it’s important that parents think about their children getting the flu vaccine.”

It was also a good time of year for people who were planning overseas holidays to check whether they would need any vaccinations ahead of their trips, she suggested.

The idea of escaping winter somewhere tropical was appealing, but it paid to be prepared.

The Department of Health and Aged Care recommends getting any vaccinations six to 12 weeks before leaving Australia.
