Murray Bridge City Lions Club ramps up local’s camping dream
The Lions Club of Murray Bridge City has presented Darren Daly with lightweight ramps to make his dream of camping with his mates a reality.
Darren Daly has long dreamed of going camping and exploring with his mates again.
A Lions Club of Murray Bridge City donation will help make that dream come true.
Mr Daly has been dependent on an electric wheelchair for mobility since a stroke 16 years ago.
The club recently donated him a set of lightweight ramps he will be able to use with an accessible, home-made camper trailer.
He had been saving for the last couple of years to purchase a second-hand trailer and canvas cover and to install a sturdy cage.
He and his supporters also decked out the camper with grab rails and a folding table and cut down a mattress to suit his needs.
But Mr Daly still needed a way to load his electric wheelchair into his camper, and the ramps from the Lions Club will enable that to happen.
Cara Inc quality service manager Emma Hansen said the ramps meant Mr Daly could go camping while still saving for the next piece of his puzzle.
“Just knowing the generous gift was coming prompted Darren to start taking better care of himself,” she said.
“He needs to be well in order to go camping, and now there’s nothing holding him back.
“This is going to be instrumental in Darren’s long-term happiness.”
Mr Daly expressed his positivity about the gift of ramps.
“My mental health can get better now,” he said.
