The Murray Bridge branch of Meals on Wheels has sincerely thanked federal MP Tony Pasin for highlighting the role the organisation plays in helping community members in need.
On August 30, National Meals on Wheels Day, Mr Pasin met with Meals on Wheels volunteers and Murray Bridge hospital staff and went on a meal delivery run with Sandra Walding and Dwayne Thomas.
Roast beef was the main meal.
Volunteers each deliver about five meals per day around Murray Bridge.
The Murray Bridge branch of Meals on Wheels SA had only recently held its annual general meeting and awards afternoon.
The branch has spent 53 years delivering 986,732 meals in the community, including around 15,000 over the 2022-23 financial year.
At the time of the meeting on August 7, it had 182 clients.
The highest number of meals delivered on any given day was 84 on July 20, 2022.
Forty-two awards were given out at the meeting, from one-year certificates to one 40-year award to Margaret Duell.
MOW SA corporate services manager David Smith presented the awards to those who were in attendance, assisted by Maureen Klau.
More than 60 people were present for the awards and an afternoon tea.
A total of 126 volunteers deliver over five runs, five days a week, and the branch is always looking for more volunteers.
