Mum hopes to start inclusive cricket team in Murraylands

Alison Kennedy wants to start an inclusive cricket club in or near Murray Bridge.

Ms Kennedy said that the Adelaide Inclusive Cricket League began a couple of years ago when a boy in Adelaide with a physical disability wanted to play cricket, but the team he approached wouldn’t allow it.

The boy took the matter to SACA, the South Australian Cricket Association, and as a result, the Adelaide Inclusive Cricket League was formed.

Ms Kennedy said that in the first year, around 15 to 20 people had played in the league, and last season other clubs came on board.

Although Ms Kennedy’s son Ethan played in the league last season, driving to Adelaide wasn’t a great option for the Murray Bridge mum.

“There was lots of travelling to and from games, and I work on weekends, so I thought, ‘I’ll see if I can get a team together in the Murraylands with some games here’,” Ms Kennedy said.

“We’ve got five people interested, but we need at least 12 for a cricket team.”

Ms Kennedy said that males or females from 14 years up, with any type of disability, can join the club.

Where the club will practise and play is yet to be decided.
