A mounted games competition will be held this Saturday, September 7 in memory of the late Kerryn Hobbs.

Ms Hobbs was an avid horse lover and thrived off watching her children compete in mounted games.

Around six years ago, she sadly lost her battle with pancreatic cancer.

Her son and the event's organiser, Jakade Salter, said his mum had loved watching him and his sister ride no matter how well they went.

"It was her favourite thing in the whole world ... she was always so proud and happy to watch us out there doing what we love," he said.

"What better way to keep her memory alive (than) have a competiton in her honour?"

The event aims to raise more awareness for pancreatic cancer and its devastating effects.

"The survival rate is very low, there's a 13 per cent chance of surviving five years once you're diagnosed with pancreatic cancer," he said.

"It just doesn't have enough recognition.

"Mum suffered a lot, she was sick for about two years before we got a proper diagnosis ... it just took so much from her and the family as well."

The family has been working closely with the Pancare Foundation and the South Australian Mounted Games Association to raise money and build the event.

"I've set a goal for $1000 but at the end of the day it's just about being able to raise awareness ... and get the word out there a bit more."

"The best way to treat it is early detection and its just one of those things that isn't commonly talked about even though it is so prevalent in society."

The event will be held at Murray Bridge Riding Club on the east side, and attendees are asked to wear a splash of purple in support of the charity.

A full canteen will be available on the day along with a bake sale, and a percentage of the entry fees will be donated to Pancare.
