Stolen Volkswagen Amarok may be in Murray Bridge

Plus a bike stolen, four people have been charged with various traffic offences and a man arrested after pursuit.

Two people have been arrested following traffic offences in a stolen car in Murray Bridge last Tuesday.

On January 28, patrols spotted a blue Volkswagen Amarok, which had been stolen from a Woodville address in early January, at a Murray Bridge service station.

Police attempted to stop the car, however it evaded them and was last seen heading east on the Old Princes Highway.

Over the next few days, the vehicle was seen driving erratically in the Murray Bridge area.

Following investigations, police attended a Tailem Bend address where they located and arrested a 34-year-old man and 28-year-old woman.  

They were charged with alleged illegal use, theft and dangerous driving to cause a police pursuit; they were refused police bail and will appear in court.

The stolen blue VW Amarok with registration S534COW has not been located.

Mountain bike stolen from Murray Bridge home

A mountain bike theft is being investigated by police after one was stolen from a Murray Bridge home during the school holidays.

Sometime between 9.45pm on Saturday 18 January and 11.30pm on Monday 20 January mountain bike and helmet was taken from the driveway of a Swanport Road property.

The bike is black and lime green and engraved with serial number GW2141866.

Local traffic offences

  • On Friday 31 January, a 38-year-old Murray Bridge woman was caught allegedly driving unregistered on Swanport Road, further checks revealed that she did not hold a current driver’s licence.  She was reported and her vehicle was impounded for 28 days.
  • On 31 January two drivers, a 48-year-old Murray Bridge man and a 28-year-old Mount Barker man, allegedly tested positive to drugs when pulled over at Murray Bridge. Both men received a three-month instant loss of licence.
  • On Saturday 1 February, a 35-year-old Ovingham man was pulled over on the Princes Highway, Tailem Bend.  Police checks revealed he was disqualified from driving, he was reported and will appear in court at a later date.

Man arrested after failing to stop for police

A 37-year-old man from Victoria has been arrested following a pursuit at Murray Bridge on January 23.

Police attempted to stop a Hyundai sedan on the Duke Highway at Cooke Plains at around 1pm.

The driver allegedly refused to stop and was followed for an approximate five kilometres before being terminated.

About 1.40pm patrols stopped the car on the South Eastern Freeway, Murray Bridge where the driver was arrested.

He was charged with driving dangerously to evade police and driving an unregistered vehicle.
