Mount Barker intersection upgrade will make Murray Bridge commute easier
Motorists heading from Murray Bridge to Mount Barker won't have to crane their necks at the turn-off for much longer.
Have you ever twisted your neck waiting to turn left at the main Mount Barker freeway exit?
The state government has announced a plan to put traffic lights there as part of a $45 million intersection upgrade.
Motorists turning right to come back to Murray Bridge from Mount Barker will get a dedicated turning lane, so they won’t have to block traffic any more.
A new bridge will also be built so that three lanes of traffic can cross the freeway in each direction.
The project will go ahead regardless of who wins the upcoming state election – it will form part of an already-announced freeway upgrade through the Hahndorf area, jointly funded by the state and federal governments.
About 1000 workers either commute from Murray Bridge to Mount Barker, or from Mount Barker to Murray Bridge, each day.
