Theft delays Mannum oval lighting upgrade

Meanwhile, a shipping container full of construction equipment has been broken into at Mannum Showground.

Police said the unknown suspects stole copper cables and high-powered flood lights that belonged to a contractor in the final stage of upgrading the oval's lighting towers.

In a social media post, the Mid Murray Council said almost two years of planning had gone into the replacement of the lighting towers.

"We were so excited with the final works commencing this week, however we are utterly disheartened this morning after finding out that project materials have been stolen," they said.

The storage container was broken into between 6pm last Monday night, May 26, and 6.30am the next morning.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestopperssa.com.au.
