Murraylands Animal Welfare Watch will host a Million Paws Walk event at Sturt Reserve this May.

Dogs on leashes will be welcome to meet at the southern end of Sturt Reserve before 11am on May 26 to join in on the fun.

Proceeds will go exclusively to the RSPCA and donations are requested in lieu of a registration fee.

MAWW decided to take on the fundraiser after the RSPCA resolved to no longer hold Million Paws Walks in regional South Australia.

However, spokeswoman Ruby Eckermann said the RSPCA were thrilled that the local group could host a walk to support animals in need.

She said the RSPCA’s important animal welfare work was almost entirely funded by community donations, and that they relied on the goodwill of supporters to continue to support animals.

“We hope to make this an annual event in the Murraylands,” she said.

“Together we can make a difference to the lives of South Australian animals.”

A free vegetarian barbecue will be held upon completion of the walk.

A similar event was last held in Murray Bridge in 2019.

Each year, RSPCA South Australia cares for more than 8000 neglected and abandoned animals.
