Mates on a mission in the Murraylands
Two friends, Mike Rolls and Ben Pettingill, are embracing their challenges to inspire others to open up about mental health.
Mike Rolls and Ben Pettingill, also known as Legless and Blind, are coming to the Murraylands.
They are a couple of down to earth, great mates that love having a laugh but also know how to talk about the things that are often avoided.
The pair will visit Murray Bridge Club on Sunday, August 18, along with 11 other destinations on a regional tour.
The Mates on a Mission program is an initiative designed to make a positive impact on communities.
Both fellas know first hand what it’s like to face tough times and battle with their mental health.
Mr Rolls contracted meningococcal at 18, resulting in the loss of his legs, and Mr Pettingill lost 98 per cent of his eyesight overnight at 16.
The program is hosted by Ski for Life, a South Australian charity committed to promoting mental health, wellbeing and suicide prevention in rural and regional Australia.
The two incredible stories plus a few laughs and the importance of looking after yourself and your mates makes for a good session that everyone can take something away from.
Their other dates will include:
- Thursday, August 15: Unity College and Jervois Football/Netball Club
- Friday, August 16: Coomandook Area School and Malinong Hall (blokes night)
- Monday, August 19: Murray Bridge High School
- Tuesday, August 20: Mannum Community College and Mannum Football and Netball Club
- Wednesday, August 21: Karoonda Area School and Karoonda Bowling Club
- Thursday, August 22: Lameroo Regional Community School and Southern Mallee Suns sporting club
