The Mallee Districts Storm have defeated the Southern Mallee Suns to win their first A grade netball premiership.

Storm came away with a 10-goal win at the final whistle, 56-46, on Saturday at Tintinara.

The match started out goal for goal in the first quarter, with well contested competition and fights for every ball.

But the Storm fought harder, and defensive tips and accurate shooting meant they were able to gain a 10-goal lead by three quarter time.

The Suns weren't able to catch back up and the Storm celebrated with hugs, cheers and big smiles down the court.

Storm captain Abbi Paech accepted the premiership trophy and congratulated her team on a well deserved win.

"It's great to see the team filled with so many locals and to see the young girls come up and bench for us is great," she said.

Storm's bench contained three intermediate one girls: Jessica Kerr, Gemma Cocks and Georgia Rich, all of whom had just won their own premiership earlier in the day after defeating Jervois.

The Suns' Brie Abernethy won the day's best on court award for the never-ending energy she put into the game.

As a team, the Suns were grateful to just make it into a grand final, as the opportunity didn't always come around often, Abernethy said.
