Life Through the Lens: May our lives be eventful

Kevin Schrapel wonders about the threshold between an "event" and the sort of things that happen every day.

Life Through the Lens: May our lives be eventful

A definition of the word “event”: “something that happens or is regarded as happening; an occurrence”.

Most Murray Bridge locals would recognise the location pictured.

Last Saturday they would have recognised that “the event” was a performance by acts from the Fringe festival.

Jesus said “I have come so that you might have life – life in all its fullness”.

Could Jesus be suggesting his wish for us is that we have a life full of events?

When you have him as part of your life, can everything that happens be considered an “important event”?

I believe that is what he is offering.

Sadly, we have come to consider an “event” is only worth thinking about if it can rate a place on either the news or social media.

Why not ask Jesus to help you see, and to experience more events in your life, a life in all its fullness?

Does watching a bee rummage around in flowers get your interest?

When was the last time you looked at a dead leaf and traced its patterns with a finger?

How long since you recognised hearing a word or conversation that grew a feeling of positivity?

Does the sound of your foot-fall on the ground cause feelings of “it’s wonderful I can walk when so many are confined to chairs”?

There will be days with events that may not feel so good.

Could they be events of learning?

Generally, a skun knuckle does heal.

A word of anger fired at you can be cast away.

Often events have to be created and nourished to bring them to reality, to recognition.

Start a day of recognised events by saying, “I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living” (Psalm 27, verse 13).

At the end of the day, as you climb into bed, make that, too, an event.

Take a few moments and consciously ponder the day, a day which could have been filled with happenings, but which today were events – events which created a day with more fullness of life.

May you have many days of fullness.

God bless.
