Life Through the Lens: Do you know the way?

I often think about the advice that came with my first GPS tracker: “if you are going to use it, trust it, even if you think you know better”.

I have to admit it was a hard lesson to learn.

Many times I found myself asking, “Oh dear – where am I? Where did I take a wrong turn?”

I imagine many of us have to admit that those words apply to more than travelling around the country; they also apply to our travels through life.

Sadly, from time immemorial people have had the universal idea: “I know best and can find my way through life”.

God’s word tells about a king, David, who trusted his God to show the way through life.

As a shepherd boy, he learnt to trust God in all things.

God would give him the courage to keep his sheep safe from lions and wolves, and to go against and kill a giant soldier with a rock and slingshot.

He became a favourite of the king and eventually was king himself.

He had been allowing God to direct his life.

Then he decided he knew best.

His “best” led to getting a big head, then to lust, adultery, and even organising the murder of a friend.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

These words from Psalm 32:8 are words by David as he realised that God, who he had turned his back on, still loved him and wanted to continue leading and blessing him through life.

Have you ever asked yourself, “Where am I taking my life?”

“My life seems to have come to a dead end.”

“I wish I knew where my life is going!”

Maybe it is time to be like David, trust that God definitely has his loving eyes on you, and let him do the leading and directing.

Your life may not take the turns you wanted or planned for, but you can be sure it will have been directed by love.

Who knows where God wants to lead?
