A learner driver in a Ford Falcon has had his vehicle impounded after doing an alleged burnout in front of the Murray Bridge Hotel.

Police attended Fifth Street, Murray Bridge on Sunday and noticed a significant tyre burnout mark on the road.

CCTV footage allegedly revealed the vehicle had committed a burnout in front of a large crowd near the hotel.

Following an investigation, police tracked down a 22-year-old local man.

The driver was reported for the alleged misuse of a motor vehicle, driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle, failing to display learner’s permit, and contravening a condition of his learner's licence.

The driver was also carrying a passenger in part of the vehicle not designed for carrying passengers.

The Ford Falcon utility was impounded for 28 days and the driver will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
