Tailem Bend’s Country Fire Service brigade will host an open day on Sunday, November 10, from 10am to 2pm at the CFS station on Golf Course Road.

The event will offer a fun and informative day for the whole family, with a free sausage sizzle, station and fire truck tours, live demonstrations, kids' activities and important fire safety information.

Tailem Bend’s CFS Captain, Dwayne Martin, explained that the open day was an opportunity for those interested in joining the CFS to learn about recruitment.

“The Tailem Bend Brigade currently manages around 80 emergency calls per year, responding to rural fires, vehicle accidents, storm events, and more,” he said.

“However, with only 15 active members, and sometimes just three or four available, there is an urgent need for more volunteers.

"We’re hoping to recruit another six to 10 members to help ensure we can respond to emergencies promptly.

“All of our members juggle full-time jobs, families, and other commitments, but when our community needs us, we’re there.

“It’s also a fantastic way to meet new people, gain new skills, and become part of our CFS family."

No prior experience is necessary, and full training and uniforms are provided, however volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

For those looking to give back to their community and try something new, it could be a great opportunity.
