Join in … with Murray Bridge Photography Club
Julie Moulds and Sarina Veliz invite you to meet friendly, welcoming people and go on pleasant outdoor outings – oh, and to learn more about photography, too.
Whether you’re a photography newbie or at an advanced level, there’s always something more to learn about the magical realm of photography.
A good thing about the Murray Bridge Photography Club is that you can get constructive feedback from other members on your photography, editing and printing without any pressure to compete.
But if you have that competitive streak, you can satisfy that too by entering competitions through the club.
Either way, you’ll make good friends and – dare I say it – develop your skills.

When did you first get involved with Murray Bridge Photography Club?
Julie: I think in about 2015. I like the arts and taking photos, and when I joined I didn’t know much at all. I’ve taught myself editing and photography.
Sarina: I joined last year. I wanted to get back into the community, and it was such a welcoming, friendly group. The social side was a good thing to do. Most of our stuff is based around outings.
What do you spend your time doing?
Julie: I’m the secretary, so I do the newsletter and all aspects of running a club. And there’s the creative side of it, where I try new things and push the boundaries.
What do you get out of your involvement with the Murray Bridge Photography Club?
Sarina: I really enjoy the feedback we get from our peer reviews. It’s a good way to learn. If you’re only judging your own work, it’s very hard to se where you can improve. People are at different stages, but in our club you’re not judged against anyone’s work. And being able to push the boundaries makes it interesting for me.
Julie: I like the experimenting, and I like to try something different. And you learn to edit the photos nicely. The members set the subjects, and my dad makes the club awards out of wood. Because we live near water, our subjects include a lot of water and nature. I love going down near the river and taking photos of the sun coming up between the cross section.
Sarina: And we all get a say in the subject for photographing. Our subjects are really varied. One day, we went to old Tailem Town, and that made me think more about using black and white.

What is your fondest memory of your time with the Murray Bridge Photography Club?
Sarina: The social aspect and getting to know people out and about. We went to Clare to an interclub competition. We had different outings, and the Clare club organised everything – it was a real experience. We’ve had some nice days at Monarto too.
Julie: The social days and mostly other people.
What is your goal with the Murray Bridge Photography Club?
Julie: To give up some of my duties.
Sarina: It would be really nice to build up the club a bit. More and more people are interested in photography, and more and more people are coming to Murray Bridge.
Why should people join the Murray Bridge Photography Club?
Julie: It’s new-member friendly. You can do something you like, and you can go out together as a safe group.
You don’t need fancy equipment – you can use phones and basic equipment – it’s good for when you’re a beginner. If you get the basics right, you have a good photo. Everything can be submitted digitally, but people can learn about printing as well.
Sarina: It doesn’t matter your level, and it’s a good social activity.
