Intersections at Tailem Bend, Murray Bridge will be upgraded
Two locations in the Murraylands will share in more than $430,000 worth of federal black spot funding.
Two Murraylands intersections will be upgraded in the next year after being allocated more than $430,000 worth of federal black spot funding.
The first will be one of Tailem Bend’s busiest intersections: the crossroads at Granites Road and Railway Terrace, where Tailem Bend Community Centre is.
A pedestrian island will be installed, new ramps installed, and better signage and street lighting put in to make it safer for people attempting to cross the 14.5-metre-wide roadway.
Two pedestrians had been hit by vehicles at the intersection in the past five years, including one who sustained serious injuries.
The second intersection to receive funding will be where Verdun Road meets Gray Street in Murray Bridge.
Kerbs will be re-shaped to highlight the need for drivers coming off Gray Street to give way, following two right-angle crashes in five years.
The two intersections are among 12 which will share $7.5 million worth of federal black spot road funding in 2026-27.
Black spot consultative panel chair Tony Zappia welcomed the “much-needed” funding.
“These important works will make our roads safer for all road users,” he said.
Anyone can nominate a black spot for assessment by the state Department of Infrastructure and Transport.
