They still call Australia home – in fact, they’ll be calling Murray Bridge home for a week this September.
Members of the Australian Girls Choir, famous for their appearance in iconic advertisements for Qantas over the past 25 years, will spend a week in the Murraylands later this year.
They’ll do workshops with music students from around the region while they’re here, and will even give two performances alongside them at Murray Bridge Town Hall on September 20.
High school staff Helen Peake and Alex McFarlane were excited at the prospect of welcoming the choir back to the region.
In the meantime, the school needs your help.
The 58 girls from the choir will need somewhere to stay from September 18-22.
Host families will need to help them get to school each day; and provide a warm, safe home for them each night.
Each member of a host family over the age of 18 will need a working with children check done, free of charge through the school; and each family will need to be willing to take at least two of the singers.
In return they’ll get tickets to the Wednesday night concert and a Thursday night thank you dinner.
“A lot of (high school) families don’t have the capacity to take two extras, so we’re putting the call out to the community,” Ms Peake said.
“From previous visits” – in 2005, 2008 and 2015 – “we’ve seen families get so much out of it.
“The girls are just lovely.”
