Two public meetings will be held next Tuesday to address questions about a proposed wastewater management system on Murray Bridge's east side.

The local council proposed building the system last month after a 2021 report found that a large number of wastewater systems in the area were failing or in poor condition.

Residents may have to pay thousands of dollars to be connected to the proposed system; but the alternative could be even more expensive for some in the long term.

Last Thursday, the council released a detailed design for the community wastewater management system, including preliminary drawings for different sections of Murray Bridge East, Riverglades and Avoca Dell.

The system would include a network of pipes and pumping stations to transport waste from individual properties to a treatment site off the Karoonda Highway.

The treatment site would be located on farmland near the Tooma Drive T-junction.

Acting community development general manager, Deb Richardson, said the council believed it was important to investigate every option to ensure the community would be supported in service provision and public health.

“We welcome the involvement of the community in providing feedback and look forward to seeing everyone at the drop-in information sessions,” she said.

The sessions will be held at Murray Bridge RSL next Tuesday, September 10.

The first session will run from 3-5pm and the second from 6-8pm, allowing residents to view the plans and ask questions.
