Murray Bridge residents will have a chance to voice their ideas on improving local and regional public transport services next week.

Locals will be able to discuss, ask questions and provide feedback on public transport issues and needs at an information session that will be held at Murray Bridge RSL next Thursday, June 19, from 4.30-6pm.

The event will contribute to a regional public transport review launched by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport, to collaborate with the community and address increasing concerns about the state's public transport.

Service planning and customer experience director Michelle Spagnoletti said the review would help the department identify gaps and recommend improvements to its current services.

“The goal is to provide access to integrated, accessible and effective public transport services that meet local needs, keeping communities well-serviced and connected,” she said.

The need for better public transport in Murray Bridge had already been a local topic of interest for quite some time.

The city's council had been lobbying the state government about the need for investment in regional public transport, both within the district and to and from Adelaide – perhaps something like Mount Barker's Keoride service.

State MP Adrian Pederick promised to push for an Adelaide Metro-ticketed bus service at both the 2018 and 2022 state elections, though a long-awaited feasibility study never happened.

It will be up to the community to keep the momentum going.

The department will accept feedback up until June 27.
