Brian Pilmore has always found peace and joy in fishing.

Born in Tanunda and now living independently in Murray Bridge, Brian has embraced the tranquil beauty of the Murray River as his personal escape.

“The river has helped me so much,” he said proudly.

“I’ve given up smoking and drinking, and I’m trying to make my life better for the future.”

Fishing has been a cornerstone in Brian’s journey toward a healthier life, offering him both therapy and a sense of achievement.

“Fishing has been more than just a hobby for me,” he said.

“It’s been a way to find peace through self-reflection, and it has helped me stay focused on what matters.”

His love for the sport and its benefits inspired him and his support worker, Barry Williams of Genuine Support Services Australia, to launch the inaugural annual Brian Pilmore Classic fishing competition.

The event is scheduled for 10am to 2pm next Tuesday, January 14 at Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge; a barbecue lunch will be provided, and prizes will be awarded for the biggest and smallest fish caught.

Enthusiasts from as far away as the Riverland and the Adelaide Hills have already shown interest in the competition, a testament to Mr Pilmore’s growing influence in the community.

So, grab your sun hats, slap on some sunscreen, and ring 8166 7577 to reserve your spot in this exciting new fishing competition.
