Drug-fuelled pirate clocked at 151km/h at Tailem Bend

A Coonalpyn man has been charged for allegedly riding through Tailem Bend at 151km/h while under the influence and wearing a pirate hat.

Police have arrested a motorcyclist who was allegedly caught travelling at more than 100 kilometres per hour over the speed limit at Tailem Bend ... “wearing what appeared to be a pirate hat and goggles”.

A speed camera on Kulde Road allegedly captured a blue motorbike going at 151km/h in a 50 zone just before 12.30pm on Friday.

The same rider was allegedly seen doing 146km/h in the opposite direction a few minutes later.

He did not appear to be wearing a helmet, police said.

Local officers were able to track the 54-year-old Coonalpyn man to a Tailem Bend address, where he submitted to a drug test and allegedly tested positive for methamphetamine.

Police arrested him and charged him with:

  • driving at a dangerous speed
  • driving while disqualified
  • driving with incorrect numberplates
  • failing to wear a helmet
  • bypassing a mandatory alcohol interlock

He was denied bail.

The man will face court in Murray Bridge on Monday.

The alleged offences were reportedly caught on camera, but SA Police declined a request from Murray Bridge News to publish the image.

Two arrested and two wanted over Murray Bridge break-in

Two men have been arrested and police are searching for two other suspects after a break-in and assault at Murray Bridge.

At around 7.45 on Friday 20 September, it is alleged that four armed men forced their way into a a house in Clifford Street and assaulted the male occupant.

The 42-year-old male victim was taken to hospital for treatment with non life-threatening injuries.

Two of the suspects, a 24-year-old Murray Bridge man and a 19-year-old man from Loxton were arrested soon after and charged with aggravated serious criminal trespass and assault causing harm.

They were both refused bail and appeared in court the following day.

Investigators are following positive lines of enquiry regarding the two remaining suspects.

Stolen Land Rover arrest

A stolen Land Rover has been recovered by police after a home at Chiton was broken into on 27 September.

Fortunately the owner had a tracking device within the vehicle and was able to provide details of its location.

Murray Bridge police attended and searched an address a Sybil Court where they located the vehicle together with an amount of insecure ammunition.

A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with alleged criminal trespass, theft, illegal use and possession of ammunition.

He has been bailed to attend Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on 11 November.
