Mannum Road reopens after serious crash
Plus police test drivers for drugs and alcohol, with mixed results.
A Murray Bridge man has been taken to hospital after a crash on Mannum Road on Wednesday morning.
The 60-year-old's Hyundai van collided with the side of a B-triple road train near the Palmer turn-off around 2.15am, according to SA Police.
He was airlifted to hospital in Adelaide with serious injuries.
The truck's driver was not physically hurt.
Traffic restrictions remained in place until about 7.15am.
Drink driver caught at four times over the limit
Meanwhile, a 41-year-old Mannum man has been reported for allegedly drink driving at nearly four times the legal blood alcohol limit.
At 1.40pm on Friday, a police patrol stopped a Holden Commodore on Adelaide Road, Murray Bridge.
He submitted to a breath test and allegedly returned a positive result of 0.190.
Licence checks allegedly revealed the man had never held a driver’s licence.
He was issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence and will be summonsed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court at a later date.
Also, a 35-year-old man from Leigh Creek was reported for drink driving after he allegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.106 on Mannum Road, Northern Heights.
He was issued a loss of licence for six months and will be summonsed to appear in the Murray Bridge Magistrates Court at a later date.
Nothing to see here
In happier news, a police operation at Monteith last Wednesday tested 475 drivers and found not a single one was over the legal blood alcohol limit or affected by drugs.
Police did defect five vehicles and issued 16 fines for a range of traffic offences.
But they were pleased with the result of the operation, which was a collaboration between local officers and their colleagues in SA Police's traffic, highway and STAR group branches, plus the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator.
