Local company Spry Civil Construction will begin transforming Murray Bridge's old racecourse next month.
A local company will start work on Murray Bridge’s biggest new housing development next month.
Developers Burke Urban announced on Tuesday that Spry Civil Construction had won a contract for stage one works at the $50 million Newbridge development – the old racecourse.
Up to 350 houses will eventually be built on the site, including 129 in the first stage, which will also incorporate extra fairways for the neighbouring Murray Bridge Golf Club.
But first, Spry will spend three months earthmoving, road-building and installing water, power and sewage connections.
Company director Sam Rasheed said he looked forward to helping transform the paddock on Mulgundawah Road into “a sophisticated yet friendly community”.
“Having seen other Burke Urban developments, we are excited to help shape the old Murray Bridge Racecourse into an impressive residential development for future generations to enjoy,” he said.
Among other projects, Spry had been responsible for works on Murray Bridge Racing Club’s new facilities at Gifford Hill and Thomas Foods International’s new access road.
Burke Urban general manager Damien Collins said the developers were keen to support local contractors wherever possible.
The Newbridge development was launched in September, 16 months after the racing club moved out.
Half a dozen first-stage allotments have sold since mid-October.
