Christmas raffle raises much-needed funds for Pompoota Hall
Residents of the surrounding area have banded together to keep the 103-year-old hall going.

In a year when we have learnt lots of new words, Pompoota Hall has not just pivoted, it has performed a double twist with a loop-the-loop.
While the community commiserated about not having a Christmas event, the committee have gone the hard yards to bring a Christmas raffle to life.
“Our Christmas event brings past residents back to celebrate community with our existing residents, so the Pompoota family is quite wide-reaching,” president Peter Sellick said.
“So when one of the committee members suggested using facebook to get our raffle out there, we thought it might be a great idea.”
The Pompoota Hall launched their raffle with a listing on their Facebook page and listed all the prizes before inviting people to get in touch with the office bearers about buying tickets.
They even had an electronic ticket purchasing option.
The hall committee drew the tickets through a live-streaming event on Monday night a bit after 7pm on the Facebook page.
“I don’t think the performance will get any gongs but we had a good time,” secretary Michelle Thiele said.
“We were very lucky to have Katherine Thiele work the phone because, to be honest, we are all of the older generation and had no idea how to get this platform to work.”
Katherine was quick to note that the phone was not the best quality and has put in a request for an upgrade to her phone for Christmas.
The Pompoota Hall would like to send a huge thank you to everyone who was involved in the Christmas raffle.
They thanked the sponsors who were the only reason that this happened, specifically Josh’s IGA, Daish Irrigation and Fodder, Murray Bridge Eastside Bearing and Brake, Murray Bridge Mitre 10, the River Murray Trading Post at Tailem Bend, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Lower Murray Grit Blasting, Farmer Johns Murray Bridge and Peter Sellick.
Everyone on the hall committee cannot thank the sponsors and everyone who purchased tickets enough.
The $852 raised was amazing and will make a huge difference, as the hall has had difficulty in holding fundraising events this year.
The community of Pompoota owns the hall in a trust and provides all the upkeep, so this year has been especially trying for them.
Every cent raised will go back into the hall, which is desperately in need of having its windows fixed.
The hall is more than 100 years old and on the state heritage register.
The wooden sash windows have seen better days; the funds raised will go towards this.
The people of Pompoota wish everyone a fantastic Christmas and hope that we can all catch up in 2021 and have a quiet barbecue.
