Chickens, potatoes and grain: seasonal jobs available in the Murraylands

A new website is helping Murraylands residents to seek out work in their own backyard.

The state government’s Seasonal Jobs SA website aims to connect jobseekers with agricultural work across the state.

In the Murraylands alone there are jobs currently advertised for work in poultry, pork and other general farmhand work.

And if animals aren’t your thing, there are opportunities in potatoes out in the Mallee.

Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development Tim Whetstone explained how Covid-19 travel restrictions would provide more opportunities for South Australians to find seasonal work.

“With border restrictions still in place to protect South Australians from coronavirus there has been a reduction in international and interstate travellers who normally take up seasonal jobs,” said Minister Whetstone.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has had an impact across many industries and this is a call to arms to fill jobs in agriculture to help our farmers put their quality produce on tables around Australia.”

In addition to jobs on farms, the fast approaching grain harvest season would see more jobs needed at silo sites in the Murraylands and beyond.

“The grain harvest season starts in October and there are now up to 1800 jobs at Viterra now open for applications through our Seasonal Jobs SA website.”
