A Murray Bridge childcare centre is at a loss to explain why someone would have climbed over a high fence to steal a children’s fairy garden – twice.
Preschool-aged children at Murray Bridge Community Children’s Centre had spent ages painting rocks and assembling statues of fairies and toadstools for the garden over the past couple of weeks.
Unfortunately, they were all stolen.
Then, when the centre replaced them, they were stolen again.
Parent Izzy Gebler-Hughes put a call out for information on a community Facebook group on Tuesday.
“The kids are really upset about the whole thing, which is heartbreaking,” she said.
She urged the thief to return the items, no questions asked.
Staff hope they will be able to show off the garden, and the rest of the centre, at an open day coming up from 10.30am on February 28.
Watch out for speed cameras
Meanwhile, SA Police have warned that they will be out and about in the Murraylands this Saturday, February 21.
Be sure to stick to the speed limit on:
- Monarto: Monarto Road
- Monarto South: Ferries-McDonald Road, Old Princes Highway, South Eastern Freeway
- Monteith: Princes Highway
- Murray Bridge: Hindmarsh Road, Maurice Road, Prosperity Grove, Swanport Road
- Palmer: Reedy Creek Road
Another week, another speeding Victorian
Finally, police have fined a 21-year-old Victorian man for allegedly speeding through Tailem Bend on Saturday night.
He was allegedly clocked at 107 kilometres per hour in a 60 zone on the Princes Highway.
Officers fined him $1954 and suspended his licence for six months.
His was the second case of alleged speeding by a Victorian driver on the same stretch of road in three weeks.
Over the weekend, police also picked up:
- A 59-year-old man for alleged drink driving on Ramm Road, Mannum around 6.30pm on Friday, after running his Ford sedan into a fence and allegedly returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.108; his car was defected and impounded, and he’ll face court in Murray Bridge
- A 33-year-old Murray Bridge man for allegedly riding a motorbike while unlicensed, unregistered and uninsured, and without a helmet, on Swanport Road, Murray Bridge at 4.30pm on Saturday; police arrested him and impounded the bike ahead of a court appearance in Murray Bridge on Monday, but did not indicate whether they had laid charges over an alleged failure to stop for them, or against a passenger who also allegedly went helmet-less
