There’s a bit of live music to be found around the Murraylands this Fringe season, but nothing quite like this.

Three locals have put the call out for performers of original music – songs people have written themselves – to join them on stage at Tailem Bend in April.

Anika Bartholomeusz, Katherine Wicker and Jarrod Matulick are calling it the Creative Composers’ Cabaret.

Over two successive Friday nights, audiences will be treated to works they’ve never heard before, by artists who live in or trace their roots back to local communities.

“There isn’t much (original music around),” Ms Wicker said.

“Hopefully this will encourage or inspire people who’ve got nowhere to perform it.”

Anyone who had written a piece of music of any kind – from pop to musical theatre – would be welcome, Ms Wicker said.

Backing vocalists, a drummer and a bass guitarist would be available to anyone who needed them.

The team behind the event, who go by the name JAKall Productions, are no strangers to this sort of thing.

They produced an original musical, I’m Fine, at Adelaide’s Holden Street Theatres last year.

Having a deadline to work to had helped the creative process along, Ms Wicker said; she hoped the coming cabaret would do the same for others.

“We like creating stuff,” she said.

“If anyone else from around the area likes creating stuff, come and create stuff with us.

“Whatever you’re passionate about … now’s the time to show your talent.”

Performers who participate in the cabaret will receive a share of profits from ticket sales.

Expressions of interest from performers are due by this Saturday, March 4.
