Murray Bridge’s Bridgeport Hotel has been named the best pub in South Australia.

The hotel was named a joint winner of the top prize at the Australian Hotels Association’s annual state awards at Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Tuesday night.

It also won an award for the best hotel redevelopment in country SA, and a judges’ commendation for staff development and training.

Owner Ian Tregoning, general manager Mary-Lou Corcoran and architect Craig Eyles were there to accept both awards.

Ms Corcoran described the win as overwhelming, and a fantastic boost for the Murraylands.

“Everyone has worked so hard … everyone has played a part in making (the hotel) a success,” she said.

“We’re very, very proud.”

More than 97 per cent of the hotel’s staff were locals, she said, and it continued to support local producers, tourism operators and suppliers however it could.

The Bridgeport underwent a $45 million redevelopment during 2019 and 2020, as the 135-year-old stone building was demolished to make way for the luxurious structure which now towers over Bridge Street.

It had an official reopening last July.

The Marion Hotel was the other joint winner of the best overall hotel award.
