If you want proof that Murray Bridge is somewhere you can succeed in business, look no further than the dental clinic at 34 Bridge Street.

Willem and Mart-Marie Bissett are celebrating 10 years as owners of Bridge Dental this year.

In that time, they have grown the practice beyond their wildest dreams, to a point where it provides more extensive services than many clinics in Adelaide.

โ€œWhen we started โ€ฆ people said no, itโ€™s not going to work, Murray Bridge people wonโ€™t be interested,โ€ Willem said.

โ€œBut people in Murray Bridge and surrounding areas want good service and good quality work, and theyโ€™re willing to pay for it if it saves them from having to travel to Adelaide.โ€

As well as general dental services โ€“ with a focus on giving patients a friendly, gentle experience โ€“ Bridge Dental provides:

  • Denture services, including an on-site dental prosthetist and manufacturing laboratory
  • Surgical services for patients who need troublesome teeth extracted
  • Dental implants to replace missing teeth
  • Restorative work: crowns and bridges
  • Cosmetic work: veneers, teeth whitening and even anti-wrinkle skin treatments

Because the practice has a dental prosthetist and laboratory on-site, all dentures and most crowns and bridges can be manufactured in Murray Bridge, saving patients from having to attend appointments in Adelaide.

That also means that treatment can often be provided in a single day, rather than at two appointments a week apart; and getting dentures will typically take only three visits, where it used to be six.

The Bridge Dental team has access to the latest 3D modelling and printing technology.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company and its staff even turned their hands to manufacturing disposable face masks.

When the Bissetts moved from South Africa to Australia a little over a decade ago, they could never have anticipated just how central they would become to their regional community.

When they first arrived, Mart-Marie worked in Mount Gambier while Willem studied in Adelaide.

She transferred to Murray Bridge when a job became available here; a short while later the practice came up for sale, and the rest is history.

The couple have lived locally ever since, and Bridge Dental has become an employer of choice whose staff โ€“ including six contracted dentists โ€“ have all been there for a number of years.

That means consistency of care for patients and better outcomes for the community.

The clinic has grown to four times its original size, its workforce has doubled, and it serves patients from as far away as Swan Reach, Pinnaroo and Bordertown.

โ€œWe never thought (Bridge Dental) was going to be this big,โ€ Willem said.

โ€œIt has definitely grown beyond our expectations.โ€
