Bowlers raise more than $2500 for Movember, $1000 for Red Cross
Members of Murray Bridge Bowling Club have grown moustaches and beards, been shaved and walked hundreds of kilometres in the name of men’s health in 2021.
A yearly health check-up might save your life, Murray Bridge lawn bowler Malcolm Carter says.
It did for him.
The prostate cancer survivor provided the serious message at what was otherwise a fun and frivolous fundraiser for men’s health at Murray Bridge Bowling Club on Friday night.
About 65 people watched on as a dozen Movember participants had their month-old moustaches shaved off.
Darren “Macca” McIntosh even had his head shaved, which single-handedly raised almost $250.
Another group walked a total of more than 350 kilometres as their own fundraising effort.
In all, club members collected $2535 worth of donations in aid of men’s mental health, suicide prevention, prostate and testicular cancer projects.

Red Cross fundraiser nets more than $1000
The club also raised $1032 for the Red Cross with an annual bowling day on the same afternoon.
Ten teams participated, including a night owls team led by Ryan Hutchesson, and lots of fun and laughter was shared.
First place went to the team of Ben Traeger, Mike Ferris, Helen Lindner and Sue Eory; and second to Malcolm Carter, Maxine Stasinowsky and Ian and Judy Zadow.
Winning envelopes were presented to the teams by Dora Eisen, with prize winners donating their winnings back to Red Cross.
The Red Cross members present had a successful trading table and a generous raffle, and served a fabulous afternoon tea.
